On the 2023 Summit, Marketing, Anthony Bourdain, and Life

Apologies for the slow posts. We’ve been putting the finishing touches on our new issue (52, out next month!) while also simultaneously locking in the final elements of our 2023 Fretboard Summit at Chicago’s Old Town School. (The Summit, I hope you know, takes place August 24-26; tickets are available here.)
It’s been a lot to wrap my head around. Which leads me to this rambling post…
I know the new issue is going to be great (subscribe if you haven’t yet). I also know that the Summit is going to be magical for attendees. We have a ton of surprises in store and the lineup additions are coming in on a near daily basis.
But I also know that it’s an uphill battle describing an event like the Summit to most. And getting folks to carve out the time away from work/family obligations, register for the event, and then make their way to a new city. Marketing something that has never existed before is hard.
